"Il m'est difficile de m'exprimer par l' écriture. Je le fais plus aisément par le geste ou la chanson." -Brigitte Martel

"I find it difficult to express myself through writing. I can do this more easily through voice and gestures." -Brigitte Martel

Brigitte Martel achieved fame as a child singer in Québec with her hit "Maman, tu es la plus belle du monde". A legendary pop cultural icon, she never hesitated to lend her soulful voice in support of the Association des Transsexuelles du Québec (ATQ), of which she was a founding member. The following images come from a documentary
produced in 1998 by Mirha-Soleil Ross about the ATQ's annual Transsexual Pride day gala. Entitled "Journée Internationale de la Transsexualité", the film offers a rare chance to experience Brigitte Martel's powerful voice and charismatic presence on stage.
