Excerpts from a speech by The Hon. Jigmi Thinley, former Prime Minister of Bhutan, used to set the stage for a YOU 177 Innovation Forum at York University on November 2, 2015.
Jigmi Thinley spoke about his country’s Gross National Happiness (GNH) strategy as a big-picture, holistic development model. It gives equal weight to money, health, biosphere, and other factors. He called for an ethical alternative vision to drive societal progress. He provided an overview of the strengths and challenges of Bhutan’s GNH strategy as a “multidimensional path to realize a different goal.”
