Thirty-five Japanese Americans were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal Sunday for their service to the nation during World War II.
Known as Nisei, for the Japanese words "ni" (two), and "sei" (generation), these second-generation Japanese Americans from central California served in the 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, or the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) during the war.
