Strengthening civil registration and vital statistics in Solomon Islands is a challenge because data, especially death data, have never been collected before in an organised manner. Only two percent of all estimated deaths are registered in the country.

Through the Data for Health Initiative, the government has been supported in implementing a number of key activities to improve the collection and analysis of mortality data.

What are the barriers to death notification in the Solomon Islands and how does the country plan to use innovative methods to improve data?
