Tēnā koe.
My name is Donna, I’m a Customer Services Specialist at Unitec Library. I look after the library’s Mātauranga Māori resources. I’m going to introduce you to these today.
Many of your topics will include a Mātauranga Māori or bicultural component. Unitec Library has lots of resources, both print and electronic, that can help you with your research, including information about the Treaty of Waitangi, of course.
Use the search box on the Unitec Library homepage to find which books and DVDs we have in the library. Use keywords to narrow your search.
A good starting point for electronic resources is our ‘Subject and Study Guides’ page. You’ll find the link under ‘Popular Resources’ on the homepage.
Begin by looking at the guide for your subject. For example, click on ‘Education’.
Most ‘Subject Guides’ have access to databases where you can find academic articles. This example, the Education ‘Subject Guide’ has a list of useful research databases you can search.
Click on the websites tab. You’ll find a list of some general websites which you may already know about, as well as others you may wish to explore.
Then, if you’re looking for specific Mātauranga Māori resources, check out our subject guide.
Click on the ‘Māori Language & Culture’ link under ‘Subject and Study Guides’.
Research databases are listed here.
Check out the Websites tab for links to various online tools, including dictionaries, digital collections and websites.
Also look at ‘Mobile Apps’.
Have a look around our electronic collections to see if there’s something useful for your research. If you need any more help to find information on your topic, please get in touch with us in the library.
And if you’re ever around the Unitec Mt Albert campus, come and look for me in the library – I’m Donna Salmon, Customer Services Specialist.
