a poem i wrote..first in a video series of performance pieces

The broken fence of what was;
In front of my eyes,
And I can barely recognize,
What it used to be.

I made this fence"
And to my own expense
I made it too intense
And now its fallen

Inching forward I take step one
Fearing what has just begun
Nothing to protect from the rays of the sun
No more barrier between me and the world

But now nothing stands in my way,
And forgetting yesterday
My right now is a little bit gray
but I smile because the fence is gone.

Nonot gray, black, or even white
Through the prism I went, my light
Scattered. and shines, steadfast in the night,
Blinding hues of all shapes and sizes

Because now I know what the fence used to be,
It was a safety net, inhibiting me.
But in reality Ive been set free,
To be true to myself.

You see, sometimes we need to tear fences down,
Because in the vastness is where our true selves are found,
When the planks fall to the ground,
We are vulnerable to the real us.
