Imagine KC: Episode 11
Sustainable, Healthy Lifestyles

In this series we sometimes throw out a term or two that might not sound familiar - this time it's "Complete Streets." It's not really a new concept though, in fact, it's a revival of the days when streets and sidewalks were engineered to accommodate different ways of getting around--not only by car. Eleven cities in the metro have adopted the policy, including Kansas City, Kansas.

So we'll head down to Southwest Boulevard to Rosedale, where Randy Mason has found examples of planning and construction underway to improve the health of its residents. But the story actually starts on Mission Road near Rosedale Park with an illustration of a neighborhood's need for Complete Streets. Students from the Kansas City Art Institute put it together as a project for a visual advocacy class to kick off their, "I Need a Sidewalk" campaign.
