When the talented composer and pianist Pat Daugherty of New York Electric Piano asked me to make a stop motion animation music video for any one of the songs on his band's album "Keys to the City," I jumped at the opportunity. I chose the song "Temple Dog," sung by one of my favorite female vocalists Deanna Kirk. The song is a perfect fit for the glassware constructions and figurines I like to build into still lifes and render meticulously through the traditional means of painting and drawing from observation. The process of making the "Temple Dog" painting is depicted in this music video from it's conception as I choose various stemware, candle holders and drinking glasses to build the glass temple and compose the still life with the singing prayer girl front and center at the microphone, along to the first brush stroke on the canvas until the very last touch of paint. These sequences of the process by which I create are interspersed with short stop motion narratives, which reveal the whimsical nature of both the song and my art; both the traditions of jazz and still life painting are embraced and their heartfelt childlike sides are explored. I would like to dedicate this video to Rex, the new born son of Pat and his lovely wife Jennifer. Congratulations, another beautiful star is born! Thank you, Pat, for giving your music to inspire the making of my art!

The painting "Temple Dog" was included in the "Major Grey" group show at the Geoffrey Young Gallery in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and now resides in the private collection of a true poodle lover! I will be having a solo show of new paintings at Lyons Wier Gallery in NYC, in the Fall of 2012.
