EVENT: Move of 50-foot diameter, 14-ton superconducting electromagnet ring from Brookhaven Lab to Smith Point Marina using a custom-built heavy-haul trailer and support fixture.

DETAILS: Scientists are planning a groundbreaking new experiment that could open the doors to new realms of particle physics. But first, they have to bring the experiment's core, a complex electromagnet that spans 50 feet in diameter, from Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York to Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois. The magnet will be trucked from Brookhaven Lab south to Smith Point Marina in Shirley, NY during the first part of a five-week journey over land and sea to Illinois.

On Monday morning, June 24, the trailer and electromagnet travelled south down William Floyd Parkway at 5-10 MPH accompanied by escort vehicles and Suffolk County Police. There were rolling roadblocks and detours during the 4-6 hour move to Smith Point Marina in Mastic Beach.

Good luck in your journey Muon g-2!
