Anatoly Karpov – a multiple world champion in chess, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Non-governmental Museum named after Nicholas Roerich of the International Center ofthe Roerichs (ICR), president of the International Association of Peace Foundations (until1991 the Soviet Peace Fund).

In 1989, the Soviet Peace Fund was one of the founders of the NGO Soviet Foundation of the Roerichs (since 1991 ICR), founded by Svetoslav Roerich with a purpose to create a non-governmental Centre-Museum named after Nicholas Roerich in Moscow, at Lopukhins’ Manor.

Nicholas Roerich – the great Russian artist, scientist, writer, traveler, an outstanding public figure of Russian and world culture, the author of the Roerich Pact – the first international treaty for the protection of cultural values. The underlying idea of the Roerich Pact is "Peace through Culture". The Banner of Peace became the distinctive flag of the Roerich Pact.
