http://www.wgu.edu - At the commencement ceremony for online university Western Governors University held in Salt Lake City on July 14, 2012, former Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer, a founding governor of WGU and the chairman of its Board of Trustees, awarded four honorary degrees to innovators and pioneers who have helped build WGU as a unique, affordable, competency-based university model in its first 15 years: Max A. Farbman, WGU Vice President of Development, 1996-2004; Dr. Douglas "Chip" Johnstone, WGU Provost, 1999-2006; Dr. Janet W. Schnitz, Dean of WGU Teachers College, 2003-2007; Associate Provost for Assessment, 2008-2010; and WGU Provost, 2010-2012; and William "Bill" Simmons, WGU Government Affairs Representative, 1999-present.
