The Chevy Volt plug-in electric car debuted at TECO Plaza in June 2011. General Motors loaned the Volt to Tampa Electric as part of the auto company's nationwide campaign to promote and launch the plug-in vehicle.
Tampa Electric plans to purchase a Volt and all-electric LEAF later this year, and TECO Energy already operates two Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, four natural gas-fueled Honda Civic GX sedans, a bi-fuel Ford Fusion and 14 Ford Escape hybrid SUVs in its growing Green Fleet.
Promoting the use of electric vehicles is just one way TECO Energy is supporting sustainable transportation. In 2010, Tampa Electric joined Get Ready Tampa Bay, part of the nationwide nonprofit Project Get Ready initiative that seeks to expand infrastructure to charge electric vehicles.
