This video documents a five minute walk through "The Dream House Collection OR Tales of Narrow Escape: A Sculptural Novel", an installation of eleven print and object-based narrative sculptures, displayed under glass and situated on a room-sized blueprint of a lost home — "evidence" accumulated to conjure up the existence of three fictional adult siblings whose lives are transformed when their childhood home burns to the ground. Offering us discrete, concrete moments into which we would never have been allowed but for the loss of the physical structure of the house in which they grew up, these narrative objects bear witness to the dreams and memories of the three grown siblings. Like images framed in a graphic novel, these things assemble themselves to reveal a collective tale.
"The Dream House Collection" was completed by Teresa Pankratz in the spring of 2010 as an Interdisciplinary Book and Paper Arts MFA thesis project at Columbia College Chicago. Video documentation and editing was by Jake Saner.
