A giant rubber duck designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman arrived in the Taiwanese port city of Kaohsiung, Thursday. At a height of 18 metres, the rubber duck is even bigger than the one that visited Hong Kong earlier this year.

Kaohsiung is the rubber duck's first stop in Taiwan, with the southern port city expecting to attract some 3 million visitors during its one-month-long stay. City officials hope that the duck will help generate up to NT$1 billion ($33,7 million, €25,3 million) in revenue for local business. Hotels and restaurants cater to duck lovers with specially themed packages and dishes. Themed souvenirs have been put on sale, such as small duck toys, balloons and t-shirts.

This rubber duck was built especially for Taiwan and is the second largest in the world. After the visit to Kaohsiung it is due to move northwards along Taiwan's west coast, with an additional stop in Taoyuan and a final stop in December in the northern port city of Keelung.
