(Sacramento) -- During the recent floor debate on funding for high speed rail in California Assemblymember Henry T. Perea (D-Fresno) told his fellow lawmakers the transportation project is more than just a way to get from one place to another for many people in the Central Valley. Assemblymember Perea said, "High speed rail for a lot of people in my district in Fresno, in western Fresno County, represents hope. The hope for a job, the hope for a better future, the hope for an opportunity." The State Assembly voted to authorize more than $4-billion in state bond funding for the first 130-mile stretch of high speed rail that will connect Madera to Bakersfield.
