John J.B. Allen's passion for teaching was nurtured at an early age. His father, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, often told him "teaching is what really makes my job fun." Today Allen, a UA professor of psychology, is known for mentoring his students one on one -- just as his dad did. Recently named a University Distinguished Professor, Allen's colleagues nominated him as "a truly compassionate and dedicated human being who also has a real knack for using technology to make difficult concepts understandable." Allen relishes teaching because it takes "vastly different approaches to get students engaged in learning."
