A most eloquent love song from the opera Il Re Pastore.

Composed by Mozart when just 19, the story tells of Aminta, living as a shepherd since being removed from his rightful throne to Sidon by a tyrant named Stratone. In the opera Alexander the Great has overthrown Stratone and plans to restore Aminta to the throne. The problem being that he plans for Aminta to marry Stratone's daughter Tamiri who is in love with Sidonian aristocrat Agenore. Complicating things further Aminta is in fact in love with a lowly shepherdess Elisa

Alexander iinsists that duty comes before love and Aminta declares his unending love for Elise despite all in theis most famous aria - - -

L'amerò, sarò costante: I shall love her, I shall be constant:
Fido sposo, e fido amante Faithful spouse, and faithful belovéd,
Sol per lei sospirerò. Only for her shall I sigh.
In sì caro e dolce oggetto In so darling and sweet an object
La mia gioia, il mio diletto, My joy, my delight,
La mia pace io troverò. My peace shall I find.

In the end wisely decides that Aminta and elise shall marry and become king and Tamiri and Agenore will rule over his next conquest

The violin obligato is a most lovely touch of elegance to a very lovely aria. It was during this ame period that Mozart had begun working on his violin concertos
