This 16mm film was taken by Lt. (JG) Edward N. Horner, medical officer on the USS Rehoboth (AVP-50), which was part of the pre-flight mission for the U.S. Navy's Truculent Turtle (P2V-1 Neptune). This historic flight under Commander Thomas Davies set a record for flying over 55 hours nonstop from Perth, Australia to Columbus, Ohio. This is fabulous footage of the plane, the crew, the kangaroo passenger and the takeoff. The plane is currently located at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, FL. For details on this flight, visit the website of the Patrol Squadron Two Association www.patron2.com.
