In a large corrugated iron shed a little way from the pumping house at Papplewick is this gem of an engine, a two cylinder Robey Winding Engine from a Nottinghamshire colliery, for winding the cages for the men and the coal up and down the mineshaft. The complex array of cams on each cylinder is in fact the complex valve gear which allows for very fine adjustment for optimum performance.
