On Friday, Feb. 15, Rep. DeSantis' first piece of legislation, H.R. 273, passed the U.S. House of Representatives in a bipartisan 261 -- 154 vote, with 43 Democrats voting for the bill. H.R. 273, also known as the federal pay freeze bill, overturns an executive order issued by President Obama which implements an across-the-board pay hike for non-military federal employees, including Members of Congress, members of the President's cabinet and even the Vice President. The bill saves taxpayers $11 billion in new spending over 10 years.
