As a mentor for Team 1508a located in Van Nuys Calif. I decided to challenge the team to use a Peaucellier planar linkage to move a claw vertical without the use of linear slides. To my knowledge, this has never been done with Vex robots. The claw is held parallel to the floor by combining the Peaucellier linkage with a 7 bar desk lamp (ie. two 4 bar linkages) . The desk lamp and Peaucellier have two links in common. The robot performed well at Vex worlds with a record of 5-3-1. See my blog vamfun.wordpress.com and the vex forum for more info on construction.
The video has a slide show and several short segments showing the robot in action.
