A CHAPTER IN AIR FORCE HISTORY CAME TO AN END AT CANNON AIR FORCE BASE, NEW MEXICO, WITH THE RETIREMENT OF AN M-C-1-30-E, COMBAT TALON. THIS COMBAT TALON LED THE WAY IN THE 1970 SON TAY RAID, AS CALL SIGN 'CHERRY ONE', DEEP INTO VIETNAM FOR A P-O-W RESCUE MISSION. RETIRED LIEUTENANT COLONEL IRL FRANKLIN FLEW 'CHERRY ONE' DURING THE SONTAY RAID, AND WAS THE GUEST OF HONOR AS THE 27TH SPECIAL OPERATIONS WING OFFICIALLY RETIRED THE AIRCRAFT ON JUNE 22ND, 2012.
