Presented by the USC Center for Sustainable Cities

The Center for Sustainable Cities is presenting the report produced by a task force of key stakeholders that addresses what California needs to do to adapt the increasing evident effects of climate change.

Climate variability is increasing and its effects are already being felt in many parts of the world. California's hot, dry climate, fragile fresh water resources and 1,100 miles of coast line all stand to be significantly impacted. The Center for Sustainable Cities is presenting the report produced by a task force of key stakeholders that addresses what California needs to do to adapt to this changing environment. The task force was organized in early 2009 by the Pacific Council for International Relations and has been appointed by Gov. Schwarzenegger to be the official advisory panel to the State of California on the issue of adaptation. Prof. Daniel Mazmanian, Co-Chair of the task force will present. Ron Gastelum, Special Counsel, Water & Energy Services of the Cordoba Corporation; Lee Harrington, Chairman of the Southern California Leadership Council and Rebecca Shaw, Director of conservation for The Nature Conservancy in California, that were members of the Task Force will discuss with Katherine Perez, Executive Director of the Urban Land Institute, Mary Leslie, President of the LA Business Council and Jack Sahl, Director, Environment and Resource Sustainability, Southern California Edison.
