The Panhard PVP (Petit Véhicule Protégé) or Protected Small Vehicle in English, is an all-terrain, air transportable, high mobility, modular, lightweight, armored vehicle developed to meet the requirements of the French Army. The PVP is designed for a maximum gross weight of 4.4 tons, operating as an infantry carrier and commander's vehicle. The vehicle is constructed with a integral armored steel hull and utilises a Daimler-Chrysler five cylinder 156HP engine.

In 2004, the French Armament Procurement Agency has awarded a €40 million ($48 million) production contract to Société Nouvelle des Automobiles Auverland (SNAA) for 314 PVP. In 2005, Peugeot Citroën sold its defense division Panhard to the French off-road vehicle manufacturer Auverland, to create a new company with the name Panhard General Defense. The Auverland A4 AVL vehicle was then selected for the PVP program by the DGA and the French Army during technical-operational comparative tests with other bidders. Due to its established name, it was decided that the vehicles would carry the name Panhard instead of Auverland.
