Students at Emmett J. Conrad High School enjoyed a performance by a South Asian Sufi musical ensemble, the only South Asian qawwali group based in the United States. This event served as a culminating activity for a two week study on Islam from its global spread to its artistic interpretations within Ms. Lad's world geography class, deconstructing dominant narratives. Riyaaz Qawwali was brought to the school thanks to grant funding by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Southern Poverty Law Center in association with Teaching Tolerance.
