Gaven MP Alex Douglas addressing nearly 3000 people at the Save Our Spit public rally held on November 4 2012 at Doug Jennings Park, at The Spit on the Gold Coast.

This was the largest public rally for any cause ever in the Gold Coast's history.

The highly respected member of parliament and widely acknowledged community spokesperson, Dr Douglas, was armed with critical data and spoke on behalf of all Gold Coast residents concerned with the proposals for a cruise ship terminal in the broadwater. Dr Douglas delivered an articulate and factual speech, addressing vital issues, both social and scientific, that cast serious doubt on the legitimacy of the plans currently being rapidly pursued by the Gold Coast City Mayor and his own state government leaders.

An amazing display of honest, informed and courageous community representation that sought to shed much needed light on the topic, and empower the public to seek transparency and honesty from the public servants that they entrust to administer the right decisions for the future of the city.
