This pair of mating Lorquin's Admirals was amazingly docile and friendly. When they flew down from the trees and landed right in front of me, I knew I was in for a good show, but was surprised to see how close I could get. At one point I was nearly touching the female with the camera and she tried to climb up onto it! So I moved my hand close to her to see if she would climb on, and sure enough, she did. It was a very warm day and they both seemed to be interested in sucking up the salts from the sweat on my skin. Butterflies frequently land on mud, decaying vegetation and other objects in search of salts and minerals necessary for their health and survival. After a short visit and some filming, I set them both back onto the Willow branch to continue on with their lives. Hopefully they were able to finish their mating and life cycle without being eaten by something!
