Roger Grimsby died in June 1995. Not unexpectedly, WABC noted this on air, through a Bill Beutel report. This video compiles two versions of the report - one used at 5pm and one used later (11pm I think). Both cover substantially the same ground but the 5pm report features a live intro from Bill, while the 11pm report uses different footage and clips from Milt Lewis and Al Primo. Also included are Bill's closing remarks at the end of the 6pm news.
Note the overall low-key tone of the report. Grimsby had been fired from WABC nearly 10 years prior, so the station had more or less moved on. The report is interesting because the tone is less celebratory and more contemplative, exploring the man's nature rather than what he did.
Also note - again - WABC's revisionist history as far as Eyewitness News is concerned. Roger and Bill did not start Eyewitness News - Roger was there first, then Bill.
It's worth noting that when Bill Beutel himself passed on in 2005, the station devoted far more airtime to that story.
