HORSEHEADS, N.Y. -- Sarah Harvey, a Horseheads New York woman protests to be reunited with her husband. Sara Harvey and a group of supporters held a peaceful demonstration outside St. Joseph's Hospital yesterday. In January 2006, Harvey's husband, Gary, had a heart attack in their home. He fell down stairs and suffered a brain injury that put him in a vegetative state.

Chemung County has been Gary's legal guardian since 2007 after a court said his wife was unfit to care for him.
Harvey was permitted to visit Gary during supervised visits paid for with his money but that money has run out.

"It hurts not to be able to see my husband. I'm allowed one phone call a day. I don't know how many phone calls patients can have in the hospital or any other place or even in jail. But it's heartbreaking, and it hurts me really, really bad," said Sara Harvey.

Chemung County Attorney Bryan Maggs says Harvey can still visit her spouse. In order to do that, she'll have to pay for the visits herself, find an approved volunteer to supervise or have Gary covered under her insurance.

Harvey says she's in the process of getting Gary back on her insurance, and in the meantime is looking for volunteers to supervise.
