The Rice Seed Expert and Project Coordinator for the Africa Rice Seed Scaling Project, Boubakary Cisse says he is hopeful that the Seed Scaling project will help boost the rice seed industry. He says the project will thrive if only partners involved are able to maintain the purity of the seed industry in the next farming season.
The Rice Seed Scaling Project, which is being implemented by AfricaRice and SARI, was launched in April 2015 with funding from the USAID. The initiative is aimed at stimulating the development of the rice value chain system in the Northern region.
As part of activities carried out by the partners along the rice seed value chain actors, 75 demonstrations fields were established throughout the region to introduce the techniques of producing quality rice seeds and also promote the use of good quality rice seeds by paddy producers.
During a field visit, the Rice Seed Expert and Project Coordinator for the Africa Rice Seed Scaling Project, Boubakary Cisse, noted that, the Rice Seed sector will only improve if farmers maintain the purity of the rice seed.
