Khayelitsha is known for its high HIV prevalence in the Western Cape Province, with 43 000 people ARV treatment. Support during the first two years on ARVs is crucial as many struggle to stay on treatment. There are many reasons, such as health system with its long waiting times and frequent appointments and there are competing priorities for patients themselves such as work and family responsibilities. In 2017 MSF offered stable patients in adherence clubs the 6 months’ supply at Ubuntu Clinic.
Lulama was diagnosed with HIV in 2000 and started her treatment in 2002. Here she shares her testimony on her experience with HIV treatment and how the 6 month supplies have made a difference in her life.
