Cockatrice is the best online client to play Magic: The Gathering for free.

This guide will get you from 0 to your first game in less than 6 minutes, plus 3.5 minutes of bonus gameplay tips.

Here are the steps you'll follow:

1. Google: Cockatrice (first result)
1. OR go to https://cockatrice.github.io/

2. Click Windows, Mac or Ubuntu
3. After download is complete run the .exe
4. Accept the terms
5. Choose where you want to install the program
6. Run Cockatrice after it installs
7. Click Cockatrice on the top left and select Check for Update
8. Choose your language
9. Let the images load to their default location
10. Click next until the database and tokens are loaded
11. Restart Cockatrice if necessary
12. Click on Cockatrice in the top left and select register to a server
1. For host input: cockatrice.woogerworks.com
2. For port input: 4747
3. Choose a name and a set a password
4. Click OK

13. Click on Cockatrice on the top left and select Connect
1. Make sure you are connected
2. I like having Save Password and Auto Connect turned on

14. When you are connected there are several tabs along the top
1. Deck
1. Build a deck 1. Find deck you want (MTG Goldfish) 2. Download it 3. Open in notepad 4. Copy to clipboard 5. Click deck editor 6. Select load from clipboard 7. Fix sideboard 8. Save deck locally 15.
1. Server 1. You can largely ignore this tab

2. Account
1. Add friends 1. use the Prodigy list to add other players to your buddies 2. Add to Buddy List on bottom left 16.

1. Find games
2. Use filters
3. Set up a game 1. Click Create in the middle on the right 2. Name your game, select the format, set a password 3. Once game is launch select Load Local Deck 1. Choose your deck 4. Select Ready to Start


Here are a few shortcuts to get you started:
Ctrl + i = Roll die
Ctrl + s = Shuffle
Ctrl + m = draw initial hand; mulligan

Ctrl + u = Untap
Ctrl + d = draw

F3 = look at deck
Ctrl + w = look at top x cards
Ctrl + e = Draw #

Ctrl + p = Set power and toughness
Ctrl + L = Set Life

F2 = concede (move to sideboard)
