Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia toured Covanta Energy Fairfax Energy-from-Waste facility (or incinerator) in Lorton, VA on May 12, 2010. Covanta Energy President & CEO, Anthony Orlando, provided an overview of the facility and explained the environmental benefits of creating energy-from-waste. The recently elected governor seemed impressed with the Covanta Energy facility and EfW technology stating, I think its a model we can use in some other places to reduce our carbon footprint and create low-cost renewable energy.
Since 1990, Covanta Fairfax has provided reliable waste disposal for a population of more than 90,000 in Fairfax County by processing 3,000 tons of waste per day into 79 megawatts of clean, renewable energy.
