Sciatica is actually a label and not a diagnosis. It is an extremely vague term used by physicians and insurance companies to describe sciatic nerve-like symptoms. There are enormous amounts of money wasted each year for treatment of sciatica. Countless exercises, stretches, injections, and unnecessary surgeries all claim to relieve sciatica.

There are 2 Main causes of "sciatica" or numbness, tingling, or burning in the leg, butt, hip, lower leg, or foot:

1. Sciatic Nerve entrapment (SNE) often misdiagnosed or rarely diagnosed and treated properly in which the nerve gets stuck to the muscles of the hip or hamstring. This is the most common. The video below shows how we specifically treat this nerve entrapment.

2. Lumbar disc injury/degeneration causes irritation or compression of the nerve.

In both cases, an accurate history, diagnosis, and specific treatment are needed to resolve and fix the issue.

Lucky for you Dr. Nottoli specializes finding the true cause of "sciatica". If you have numbness, tingling, aching, or burning or other sciatic nerve symptoms schedule and consult and evaluation with Dr. Nottoli.
