Why did we choose to do our video on the Huron Humane Society?
Well for one, I am a participating Member and Board Member of the HHS. I think they do a wonderful job with the limited resourses they have.
The Huron Humane Society (HHS) is one of few No-Kill Shelters within the State of Michigan providing animal care, rehabilitation, and education to the public. We are an independent group comprised entirely of local people working to find homes for and rehabilitate the homeless pets in our care and in our community.
We are unique in the aspect that we are not affiliated with nor do we receive funding from any other humane organizations. Our independence from such organizations allows us to remain a no-kill facility which is the highlight of our mission statement and the back-bone of our organizations. 87% of our funding has, for the past 5 years or more been acquired through public donation generated from fundraisers and membership fees. 13% of our Funding has been acquired through Government Allocation from The City of Alpena, The County of Alpena and The Township of Alpena. No-Kill status as an animal shelter is important enough to our Members, Board of Directors and community supporters that we are willing to work extra hard to secure funding for our ongoing animal care efforts, educational and outreach endeavors and spay/neuter programs.
Someone has to be a Voice for the Animals. We do our best to be that voice.
