It's time to SCREAM! Hear what the critics are saying bout the 4th film in our Review Roundup!
Hey There, I'm Chelsea Cannell here with your Review Roundup on Scream 4. If your Cravin some more of Wes Cravin's killing spree then you're probably pretty excited that Scream 4 has finally hit theaters. So before you head out to to buy your popcorn, we wanted to let you know how the critics feel about the flick so far. So let's start with the negativity first so we can finish on a high note!
Todd Mccarthy over at the Hollywood Reporter didn't really seem to love it saying that it "very quickly and tediously becomes more of the same old craven thing." To which he Added that "it goes on far too long for its own good." He suspects the film will have a big opening weekend but quickly fall off in favor of a quote "robust home viewing life."
The New York Daily New's Elizabeth Weitzman went as far as to call the film Stale, saying it relied heavily on clichés that don't seem ironic anymore but just easy. She said there are several genuine jolts but that "poor pacing leaves too much time between silliness and scares." She added that craven and Williamson have done little to renew their model... which feels noticeably dated!"
Betsy Sharkey of the La Times wasn't as harsh on the flick saying it found a way to live up to its gory past carving up new terrors in new ways. She added the kills felt both bountiful and bloody!
Mick Lesalle of the San Francisco Chronicle echoed that saying ""Scream 4" is a strange concoction, clever and self-knowing in the extreme and yet operating in primal ways that bypass wit. Something about it feels very modern."
So will I see it? I'm probably not gonna rush out to the theater but I do think it's worth the watch, after all who doesn't love a good scare and a laugh, even if it's AT the film and not with IT. But what about you? Will you see Scream 4 in the theaters, at home, or not at all? Tell us your plans in our comments, click subscribe, and then follow us on twitter @clevvermovies.
