On the June 6 episode of Raw, Vince McMahon would make Riley team with John Cena to face R-Truth and The Miz, with Steve Austin as the special referee. Riley and Cena would win the match, but the decision would be reversed by the Anonymous Raw General Manager, as Stone Cold had physically assaulted The Miz during the match, hence making Miz and Truth the victors via disqualification.[38] On the same show, it was confirmed that Riley would face The Miz at Capitol Punishment.[39] The following week, on an All-Star edition of Raw, he refereed the match between The Miz and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper with $5,000 being on the line. Riley attacked The Miz during the match, leading to Piper pinning The Miz and Riley giving Piper a fast count, thus making Piper the victor. At WWE Capitol Punishment, Riley defeated The Miz.[40] The next night Riley teamed with John Cena and Randy Orton in a 6 man tag team elimination match against The Miz, R-Truth, and Christian. Alex was the first eliminated after a Skull-Crushing Finale by Miz but his team still managed to win the match. The following week, a Raw Roulette edition, he teamed up with Rey Mysterio to defeat The Miz and Jack Swagger. On the July 4 edition of Raw he defeated The Miz by a roller. After the match, The Miz brutally attacked Riley.
