Forbidden to hold a Round Dance as occurred last year, Idle No More Minnesota leaders Reyna Crow and Patricia Shepard held a press conference outside the Mall of America on a public sidewalk, then entered the Mall to deliver gifts of sweetgrass, sage, maple sugar, and water to the Mall administration. On entry into the Mall we were stopped by Mall security and searched. In the rotunda outside of Sears I counted 14 armed police and mall security officers. While Reyna debated about where to get a cup of coffee, this security officer approached her and demanded that she leave the mall for an event she might do! Despite the fact that numerous flash mobs and Christmas caroling have occurred at the MOA without disturbance, despite the fact that treaty rights give Anishinabe the continued rights to hunt and to gather on the ground where the MOA stands, and despite the fact that our only *potential* action might have been to dance, both Patricia and Reyna were arrested and forcibly removed via security doors. This video documents the encounter.
