Carlucci Sworn In at RCC: Now Let's Get To Work
Many local supporters came out to see ceremonial launch of his first term in the state Senate.

Although he was officially sworn into office in the state Senate Chambers in Albany earlier this month, supporters of David Carlucci got a chance to celebrate his election during a ceremonial swearing in Sunday at Rockland Community College.

"Everyone knew it would be a tough race, but if you let David get out on that campaign trail, if you let David look into the eyes of the voters of Rockland County he would convince them that he had new and fresh ideas for Albany," said Assemblyman Ken Zebrowski, D-New City, at the celebration.

Carlucci, D-New City, became the state senator for the 38th District by winning the Nov. 2, 2010, election to fill the seat that was held by the late state Sen. Thomas Morahan, who died July 12, 2010. Carlucci defeated Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef, R-Orangetown, to win the seat.

Until his election, Carlucci was Clarkstown's town clerk.

Supporters and peers surrounded Carlucci—a former student at Rockland Community College and Clarkstown North Graduate—as Spring Valley Judge Christine Theodore administered the oath of office just past 1 p.m.

"When he took on the impossible, some people counted him out. But those of us who knew him said, 'you don't count David Carlucci out,'" said U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, who noted that Carlucci has been somebody who has stood for reform in government.

With a long two-year term ahead of him, Carlucci is excited to get started.

"I am so glad this day is here. A lot of hard work goes into all of this but most importantly I am just so happy to see how many people showed up in support," said Carlucci. "Now let's get to work."
