I built a DIY teleprompter with a 10" LCD and $35, but basic photo glass wasn't perfect. Teleprompter build video: http://youtu.be/n5_B8yksQmo

The nice folks at McLean County Glass & Mirror (Bloomington, Illinois) said that most residential mirrored glass is too dark to shoot video through, but they found this 12x12" sample (free from the manufacturer). Mirrored glass—reflective mostly on one side, slightly bronze in color. They even cut it to 8x10" for me for free!

If you're building your own teleprompter, you can buy beamsplitter glass online for $60 to $150, but because of the relatively small size, you may be able to find effective and cheap (or free) glass from your local retailer.

For more info, watch the build video, and you can find more info in the description of that video: http://youtu.be/n5_B8yksQmo

The 10" monitor is one I found through DVXUser last year: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread....
