A year ago I began my Appalachian trail thruhike. I could never have imagined all the ways my life would change and the family I would meet. As a music therapist, I have the honor of working with some incredibly inspiring people. One of them, a stroke survivor and hiking enthusiast, has recently been relearning how to play the piano with me. We often play this song, imagining all the beautiful things we have seen from our days hiking, and today, I suggested we try recording her playing to accompany the photos of my journey. It's raw, unedited and perfect, even with all the nursing home sounds in the background. With this, her journey of recovery and my journey on the trail finally combines in a more tangible way. Thanks to everyone who helped me before, during and after the trail!
