The trend of streamlined open world games these days makes me nostalgic for how games like Gothic and it’s brilliant sequel Gothic 2 approached open worlds back in the day.
I’ve been wanting to talk about this wonderful action RPG for a very long time, so here’s my most important reasons why Gothic’s open world design is still, after over 14 years since its release, amazing!
Both games can be purchased at Steam:
Gothic 1: http://store.steampowered.com/app/65540/
Gothic 2: http://store.steampowered.com/app/39510/
And gog.com:
Gothic 1: https://www.gog.com/game/gothic
Gothic 2: https://www.gog.com/game/gothic_2_gol...
In this video, I use a modded version of the two games, adding high resolution textures and Direct X 11 support to the games.
Check this video for details on how to install it (and skip the L’Hiver modification [Steap 2] if you don’t want the original map to be altered)
