Not really. Just because he's giving advice to a nation doesn't mean he's taking the advice himself. He got a buzz out of driving fast, not the first young person to feel like that. He knew what he was doing, death was a possibility and the chance a buzz costs. Yeah its a shame, but he was just exercising an ideal world scenario to kids tuning in . It's a case of - do what I say not what I do.
I have a feeling that maybe James Dean knew he was going to die at a young age and thats why he packed as much as he could in his short life. He quoted the line "Live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse." and he actually changed the last words of this from the life you save could be yours to mine.  There is a lot of tragic irony with his death but he did die doing something he enjoyed and knew the risk of. He's always going to be a legend and an idol for ever young person out there. He's one of my favorite classic film actors. He had a lot of talent.

Live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse was a line from a Humphrey Bogart movie who played Nick Romano. At least get the facts right abut Dean.

It's so haunting that he died a week after he did this
How scary is that? Dean died doing exactly what he was preaching against! And the interviewer, actor Gig Young, died by committing suicide. Thanks for the advice guys! Sheesh!!!
No more scary then Dale Earnhardt doing a PSA.
Even better! Gig Young died in a murder/suicide! Killed his wife, then himself. Actors just had more interesting deaths back then, I tell you.
1:35, he smirks because he's lying his ass off. Robert Redford (and later Brad Pitt) I think both got their big push in acting largely because they so closely resembled James Dean.

Ironic as hell. Hypocritical too!!
Very spooky but true check this out... In 1955, James Dean said to a friend, "my fun days are over". An hour later, his car crashed and he was dead. A self-fulfilling prophecy ... or just bad luck?

Damn, any excuse and the god squad arrives! give it a break! He'd be alive it he read the bibile and didn't speed in a sportscar? fk that, give me the keys I'm going for a spin and I'll light my cigarette with the pages of the bible. Lifes for living, not following gods and stopping your natural desires.

+sclock2 Some people really should be left alone since they're, well, really violently vehement about not listening and are so interested in their own perspective that they won't consider another one thinking they already know what I'm saying...

You can tell how me much he modelled himself on Marlon Brando.

They were supposedly lovers at one point.

Just watched "Giant" tonight
I know, it's like we saw James Dean age before our eyes. Shame that its our only glimpse of "what could have been", had he lived past the 50s, into the 60s and honed his acting craft.....
