In fall 2015, the Mobile Botanical Gardens will be welcoming a new collection of native deciduous azalea hybrids developed by the late Dr. Eugene Aromi. He was a native of Mobile, AL who, when we wasn't teaching at the University of South Alabama, was in his backyard making his own crosses on evergreen and deciduous azaleas. Maarten van der Giessen of van der Giessen Nursery in Semmes, AL, takes us on a journey through the almost 40 year breeding program and talks about how important it is for this collection to be housed at the Gardens in Aromi's hometown.
