Liszt transcription (1835 - 1837) of Beethoven 5th Symphony op.67
Idil Biret played Liszt's piano transcriptions of the nine Beethoven Symphonies in 1986. The four recitals were broadcast live to Europe. This was the first known public performance of the series in its entirety. The same year, Idil Biret recorded all the nine symphonies. She later played these in concerts in London, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Milan, Frankfurt, Munich, Istanbul and other cities. The performances and recordings received worldwide critical acclaim:
Corriera Della Sera (Italy) : Biret conquers by dominating the whole Gramophone (England) : This is a remarkable achievement Le Nouvel Observateur (France) : A symphonic depth rarely heard until now. Munchner Merkur (Germany) : Performance of the 5th symphony in the Herkulesaal received a thundering ovation. New York Magazine (USA) : Biret's taste, technique and sound musical decisions are admirable. Le Soir (Belgium) : Biret played the 5th and the 7th with spirit, great technical ease, breathtaking virtuosity and implacable energy.
