Rachna Nivas, senior disciple of Pandit Chitresh Das, choreographs and performs a new solo work, Bhakti (devotion), based on the life of Hindu female mystic, Meerabai. This 16th century princess defies a starkly patriarchal society by rejecting her husband and becoming completely immersed in her poetry and dance devoted to Krishna, the deity representing consciousness. Even with attempts on her life, Meera never falters from her path of seeking spiritual liberation from the mortal world of violence, slavery of women, and worldly desires.
