History has it that the good people of the Peninne Village of Marsden once planned to keep it always spring. They would cage a wild cuckoo so it could not take the good weather with it when it flew back south. They build a cage of stone but the cuckoo escaped. The locals say if it had been just one course higher it would have never have got away.
