For the average Walmart worker who makes $8.81/hour, according to an IBIS World Report, it would take them 7 million years to earn as much as the Walton family has. (1- See source at bottom) For Cayt Lawley who makes less than $8/hour it would take even longer.
Cayt works at a Walmart in Searcy, Arkansas and makes $7.95/hour. And when Mitt Romney made remarks about those who are on government assistance she was outraged. "I work, I'm a maid, I'm a babysitter, I'm a nurse. I clean the house. I cook. I make sure household-wise everything is taken care of. If Mitt Romney thinks I'm lazy or I'm just looking for a handout, he doesn't see what's really happening in America."
"If I could talk to Mitt Romney I would have him tell Walmart's Chairman Rob Walton to pay his workers enough to get off the government wage -- so they don't have to worry day to day about what's going to happen or if everything's going to fall apart," she says.
Cayt is right. The problem in America isn't working people refusing to take responsibility. The problem is billionaires like the Waltons and profitable corporations like Walmart refusing to take responsibility.
