I taught in Japan for two years in the early 1990s on the JET Program. This video was shot during my second year. Below is an index to certain "highlights" from this particular class at Amakusa Senior Secondary School (天草高校).
1:36 Student's right, I'm wrong, but so what?!?
3:00 Intense demonstration: "Jaws" is my favorite movie!
4:41 Student wins our competition -- but don't tell that to me!
7:13 Propaganda Groupthink Lesson: "English = Awesome!" [Eigo = Subarashii!]
8:39 Japanese song - requested by a student Yukari - who didn't expect to be a star

In this video, I am introducing myself to one of the many classes I taught at Amakusa Senior High School In Kumamoto, Japan, as a teacher on the JET Program from 1991-1993,

"I began to use more and more of my basic knowledge of Japanese in the classes I taught to show students that it was OK to speak a second language, loudly, and make mistakes -- and lots of them -- in public and without shame. This became part of my pedagogical shtick. However, as the class progressed, I used less Japanese. By the end of the term, we spoke only English in the classroom. I loved teaching in Japan. It was so much fun and the kids were terrific."

Teaching English in Japan. It's a great experience.
