Global Power Shift, #PowerShift Conference Videos

The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is a massive 'trade' deal (though not about trade), that will effectively inhibit governments' right to regulate. It will be backed by provision for transnational corporations to sue governments for regulation they don't like and that inhibits their future profits. Environmental legislation is a obvious main target. So TTIP e.g. potentially overrides fracking bans. Negotiations on TTIP are secret until the deal is completed, but this workshop will explain how the deal works for informed action against the deal.

Linda's work has involved researching the EU's secretive international trade agenda for many years. Now the biggest 'trade' deal is in train, and she is working to expose the implications of this corporate bill of rights, including how it will disallow any real action for climate change. Linda feels that making the connection between the expansion of corporate rights climate change action is exciting because it gets to the core issue.

Power Shift UK is part of Global Power Shift , which launched in June 2013 with a week-long convergence of 600 people from 130 countries around the world in Istanbul. The Power Shift UK organising team aims to bring people together to help create a UK climate movement that is more diverse and involves a broad range of groups and people from a range of backgrounds.
